THINKING CAPS..

Several late nights of smudging white and black paint around with a hairy stick a few weeks ago resulted in this painting being painted..Full of textures and drips, this 1 meter by 80cm canvas was started without any real plan and quickly turned into something that was going to take a long time. After recently painting up some custom spray cans where the characters had drippy paint faces, I decided to explore this idea a little more..This was almost abandoned a few times during it's process, as it took a while for it to take shape and more than once paint dried the wrong shade of grey or a drip didn't run right and annoyed my cat. 

As with every painting, hours were spent in deep concentration and things got learnt!. When focused and "in the zone" it feels like your minds somewhere else for a while, even though it's busy trying to make paint dry in all the right places and remember how it did it.. Once certain things were figured out this piece eventually became more fun to work on and I'll definitely try out this style of painting again.

Amazingly (for me) this painting has already sold and it's nice to know it's gone to a good home, in good company where there's already some of my work :) 

GOT PRINTS?..  

 After receiving some interest in this piece after posting pictures on my social media, I promised a few people that there would be a print option.. The first A3 test prints came out well which I picked up yesterday, so... 

If you'd like a signed copy of "Thinking Caps" there are some now available from the store. HERE..  Printed on quality, thick,  heavyweight, archival slightly textured paper ( which looks more like an original piece than a glossy poster print ).. SPEAK LESS BUT SAY MORE

Seems as though a lot of so called art these days has to have a paragraph to explain why it's any good..I've never been a fan of the sort of stuff that needs explaining..If you look at it and like it, that should be enough without having to read a paragraph to decide..So this paragraph is an attempt to explain why I'd rather paint and create stuff without having to explain what I was thinking or why I felt the need to do it. Speak less but say more... I could have waffled on about a bit more about it's context and meaning, the many techniques used to paint this, the years of character development it's taken to freestyle this on canvas, but there's other writing I need to include below so I'll just skip to that..

  Measuring 16x40 inches, this piece was painted across two 16x20 canvasses which can be displayed with or without a small gap in between..Created with spray paint and acrylics, this piece took several late nights to contemplate and complete, and was finally finished, photographed and made available from the store today.. 

Featuring that guy "the Maskedman" silencing a loud mouthed Maaadcan that's plugged into his skull king mask, and my little cat apprentice "Dog" who goes out every night to mark our territory.

TOY LINERS resin vandals

   Fresh to the store this week is a line of "not toys" called TOYLINERS..

For those that don't already know, a "Toy" in graffiti terms is someone who isn't that good, has a weak style and sloppy handstyle. hasn't had much practice or put in any work and probably doesn't understand the unwritten rules of graffiti yet.. These toys often find themselves getting crossed out, lined or gone over..It's just how it is.. 

   In terms of these toy looking objects me and lots of other people produce which get labelled as "toys" or "designer toys" ( and loads of other titles that attempt to explain what they are) they aren't really toys, in the sense that they weren't necessarily made to be played with.. That being said, most of the time it's the closest word that sort of describes what they look like, hence the name ToyLiners.. (If you'd like to see more of the not really toy things I'm waffling about, I recommend checking out SpankyStokes.com and the ToyChronicle blog for a quick eye opener.) 

Cast in resin and hand painted with acrylics, these 4 inch figures have detachable magnetic heads and come presented in custom vandalized boxes with free stickers inside..
